In the report “Ethics in Search”, the Open Search Foundation examines the use of and attitudes towards digital services, especially search engines, from a professional and private perspective. To this end, a survey was conducted in January and February 2023 among 1000 professionals in Germany who use the internet for work. In an online survey that took about 15 minutes to complete, they provided information on how they conduct research on the Internet, what aspects are important to them when doing so, and whether there are any guidelines or ethical considerations for the professional use of digital services, especially search engines.
The study was funded by Stiftung Mercator as part of the #EthicsInSearch project.
The study is available in German.
